What I Do

A Physician Who Looks at the Whole Person

Integrative and functional medicine that looks beyond the symptom to possible underlying contributors.

At AWAREmed, I practice integrative and functional medicine — a patient-centered approach that combines conventional medicine with evidence-informed complementary strategies. My focus is on understanding why a patient is unwell, not just managing what they feel. I work alongside conventional medical care, not instead of it. All services are intended to be supportive and complementary. I do not promise specific health outcomes.

Supportive and adjunctive care alongside conventional medical treatment.

Functional Medicine & Underlying Contributors

I use advanced laboratory testing and clinical evaluation to look for metabolic, hormonal, nutritional, and physiological imbalances that may contribute to a patient's condition.

  • Comprehensive metabolic and hormonal panels
  • Nutritional and micronutrient assessment
  • Inflammatory and immune markers
  • Gut health and microbiome evaluation
  • Genetic and genomic considerations

Integrative Oncology Support

For patients navigating cancer, I provide supportive, integrative care designed to complement — not replace — conventional oncology treatment. This may include:

  • Nutritional support during treatment
  • Metabolic and general wellness support
  • Stress physiology and nervous system support
  • Quality-of-life and recovery support

My role in cancer care is supportive and adjunctive, not cancer treatment. All oncology decisions remain with the patient's licensed oncology team.

Hormonal & Metabolic Optimization

Hormonal imbalance can affect energy, mood, metabolism, cognition, and long-term health. My evaluation and support may include:

  • Thyroid function (full panel, not just TSH)
  • Adrenal and cortisol patterns
  • Sex hormone balance (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone)
  • Insulin resistance and blood sugar regulation
  • Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), where clinically appropriate

IV Nutrient Therapy & Detoxification Support

Intravenous nutrient therapy delivers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants directly to the bloodstream — bypassing digestive absorption limitations. This is supportive care, not treatment for disease. Formulations are tailored to each patient's clinical needs and health goals.

Common formulations:

  • High-dose Vitamin C (supportive use)
  • Myers' Cocktail (energy, immune, recovery support)
  • Glutathione (antioxidant and detox support)
  • NAD+ (metabolic and neurological support)

I also offer supervised detoxification and chelation support for patients with documented heavy metal burden or environmental toxin exposure. These protocols are medically supervised and individually designed.

IV therapy and chelation are supportive services. They are not intended to diagnose or treat disease.

Whole-Person Support

Recovery Support & Spirit–Mind–Body Integration

I am a licensed medical doctor with conventional medical training who practices integrative and functional medicine. My work is designed to support overall wellness, resilience, and quality of life, often alongside standard medical care, not as a replacement for it.

Addiction & Recovery Support

My work in this area is focused on supportive, complementary care, which may include:

  • Education related to nervous system regulation and stress response
  • Nutritional and metabolic support for general wellness
  • Trauma-informed lifestyle and wellness guidance
  • Long-term wellness and aftercare support strategies

This approach does not replace licensed addiction treatment programs, detoxification services, emergency care, or mental health treatment.

Spirit–Mind–Body Integration

I recognize that overall well-being involves physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual factors. My approach may integrate:

  • Lifestyle and behavioral medicine principles
  • Patient education and informed decision-making
  • Stress reduction and emotional well-being support
  • Foundational nutritional supplementation when appropriate

For individuals affected by cancer, supportive care may also include general wellness support related to fatigue, sleep, and daily functioning, as well as emotional and spiritual support for patients and families. These services are supportive and complementary in nature, and intended to be used alongside standard cancer care under the guidance of a patient's oncology team.

I am committed to practicing medicine with integrity, professionalism, and humility, and to ongoing education and professional development. My goal is to offer guidance, education, and support while respecting the complexity of health and individual care.

Transparency & Compliance

What I Do Not Claim — and Why It Matters

Ethical medicine means being clear about what we offer and what we do not.

✗ "I do not replace cancer treatment."

AWAREmed provides integrative supportive care alongside conventional oncology — not as a replacement for it. No claim is made that our services treat or prevent cancer.

✗ "I do not claim to treat addiction."

Supportive nervous system and nutritional care may assist recovery journeys, but this is not addiction treatment. Patients requiring addiction medicine should work with licensed addiction specialists.

✗ "I do not promise outcomes or results."

Medicine cannot ethically promise specific results. Individual responses to integrative care vary.

✗ "I do not advise patients to abandon conventional care."

Integrative medicine is intended to work alongside conventional medicine. I encourage all patients to maintain their relationships with their primary care physicians and specialists.

✗ "I do not make claims beyond what evidence supports."

All clinical recommendations aim to be evidence-informed and to follow FTC guidelines for health claims in advertising.

✗ "I do not offer emergency or acute medical care."

AWAREmed is an outpatient integrative wellness practice. For emergencies, patients should contact 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

These statements reflect AWAREmed's commitment to ethical, transparent, and legally compliant medical practice. If you have questions about scope of care, please speak directly with Dr. Dalal Akoury, MD, MPH during your consultation.

  • ✓ I will disclose the evidence — or the limitations of evidence — behind every recommendation.
  • ✓ I will comply with all applicable medical, FTC, and advertising regulations.
  • ✓ I will treat you as a whole person, not a diagnosis.

“I became a physician to serve, not to sell. My commitment is to offer you honest, compassionate, evidence-informed care — and to always be transparent about what I know, what I believe, and what I do not claim.”
